Performance

The relationship between aural and visual presence in public space and political power is a constant focus of Nasan Tur's artistic practice. His works present experimental approaches that highlight the symbolic components of social discourses and reveal the complexity of their mechanisms.

In his performance "Raise the Voice," the artist explores the potential of individual agency in today's repressive political climate. He expands the physical boundaries of his voice by pronouncing the sounds of several letters and accumulating them with the help of an amplifier.

Eventually, the audience recognizes that these letters form the first name of Osman Kavala: a prominent civil rights activist and founder of Anadolu Kültür, who has been imprisoned in Turkey since October 18, 2017.
