Event 3 of the debate forum “Quo vadis Environmental Protection? Strategies for a Resonant Human–Nature Relationship”
The protection of natural livelihoods is an important objective of German policy. The focus lies on addressing a wide range of environmental threats, such as climate change, the pollution of drinking water, and the alteration and loss of biodiversity.
These challenges are often perceived in politics, research, and society as seemingly unsolvable political problems, because they are shaped by conflicts of interest, dynamic complex systems, and uncertainty. This perception frequently goes hand in hand with feelings of powerlessness, impulsive action, or symbolic politics.
But does consistent environmental protection not require more effective policy-making?
