POSTPONED: The Cool and the Cold. Painting of the USA and the USSR 1960-1990. Ludwig Collection

In the year of the 30th anniversary of German reunification, a group exhibition entitled 'The Cool and the Cold/Painting of the USA and the USSR 1960-1990/Ludwig Collection', which unites paintings from both world-political centres of power created during the Cold War, can be seen in the Gropius Bau.

Niederkirchnerstraße 7 10117  Berlin

Under this title, works by Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Viktor Pivovarov, Il'ja Kabakov, Erik Bulatov, Lee Lozano, Natal'ja Nesterova and Ivan Čujkov from the Ludwig Collection, among others, will be interrelated. Peter and Irene Ludwig from the Soviet Union were among the first European collectors* of American pop art and art; their extensive collection thus enables a critical juxtaposition of works from both camps of the East-West conflict.

The exhibition at Gropius Bau examines how women artists* reacted to the political and aesthetic questions of their time and negotiated ideas of individual and social freedom; in the dialogue of conceptual art and Pop Art from three decades, art becomes readable as an expression of and commentary on ideologies.
