Platypus, the Berlin Children's and Youth Theater develops and produces English-language or bilingual plays for children and young people as an independent theater group.

It works on themes that connect to the experiential world of their audience. Using a variety of methods, they work together with authors in a creative team to develop new plays that are moving, fun and that make English as a foreign language sensually tangible and understandable in theatrical space.

Platypus Theater was founded by Anja and Peter Scollin in 1985. Initially, they produced clownish plays for kindergarten children in German.

In 1992 they produced their first English-language play, and due to the great success with audiences and a great demand, their focus shifted more and more to youth theater in English, so that today they have specialized in this area, whereby they do not see themselves as theater illustrating foreign language teaching, but rather view foreign language as a challenge to try out new ways in theater in terms of content, aesthetics and dramaturgy.
