Exhibition featuring over 40 works

Starting September 27, 2025, CAMERA WORK gallery will present an exhibition featuring over 40 works by renowned photographic artist Patrick Demarchelier—including world-famous portraits as well as previously unseen pieces. This marks the fifth solo exhibition of the celebrated photographer at CAMERA WORK, which has represented him exclusively in Germany for over a decade.

Accompanying the exhibition, the photo book Patrick Demarchelier – Fashion Photographs Seen and Unseen (Rizzoli) will be published on September 9, 2025.

The exhibition is structured around two central themes: fashion photography and portraiture. Together, these works compellingly demonstrate why Patrick Demarchelier is considered not only one of the “Big Five” of fashion photography but also one of the most influential photographic artists of his generation. His work stands for a visual language that unites elegance with depth—technically brilliant, yet rich in emotional nuance and subtle expression.

In Demarchelier’s fashion photographs, fabrics become sculpture, and bodies transform into compositions of light and movement. His long-standing collaboration with Christy Turlington represents a defining chapter in his career—their work together has become iconic for an entire era.

At the same time, Demarchelier’s portraits reveal a rare intimacy: Glenn Close, Paul Newman, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Demi Moore—they do not appear as staged personas, but rather as genuine presences. His portraits of Diane Kruger, Kate Moss, and Gisele Bündchen also exemplify this layered approach, in which photography elevates personality into an artful truth.

With this unmistakable style, Patrick Demarchelier is recognized as one of the most influential figures in contemporary photographic art—far beyond the world of fashion.

His iconic images are genre-defining, timeless, and enduring in their impact to this day.
