30 Years of BBB

Over the coming months, visitors can look forward to a series of events that highlight people’s connection to “their” swimming pool.

Kicking off with a big anniversary raffle

The festivities kick off on June 1, 2026, with a special raffle: During the promotion period from June 1 to August 31, 2026, a total of 30 Flex passes valid for three months will be raffled off among all participants—3 months of free admission to all swimming pools*.

Anyone can participate by submitting a personal story related to the BBB’s swimming pools:

A special experience, a funny story, a personal favorite spot at the pool—stories that illustrate the diversity and significance the pools hold for Berliners on a personal level.

Creating Memories Together

“For decades, our Berlin swimming pools have been places for socializing, exercise, relaxation, and recreation. For 30 years now, they have been operated and further developed under the umbrella of Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB),” says Johannes Kleinsorg, Chairman of the Board.

Board Member Marie Rupprecht adds:

“On the occasion of our anniversary, we would like to expressly thank our colleagues and our guests and bring their diverse, personal stories to light. We also publicly thank all contributors and supporters, in particular the Senate, the House of Representatives, the BBB Supervisory Board, the municipal administrations and districts, clubs, associations, and the Berlin Police.”

Additional Anniversary Events Throughout the Year

Following the kickoff, swimmers can look forward to more highlights and events throughout 2026. Among other things, the agenda includes:

• Midsummer at the Am Insulaner outdoor pool on June 21, 2026
• Two Kids’ Pool Parties in cooperation with Radio Teddy on August 19 at the Wuhlheide Summer Pool and on October 24, 2026, at the Schöneberg City Pool
• A major electronic music pool session on August 30, 2026, at the Neukölln Summer Pool
• Additional anniversary family pool parties in October and December 2026.

Details about the individual events will be announced in due course.

Before the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe was founded, Berlin’s public swimming pools were managed by 23 independently operating pool authorities within the districts. To create synergies, standardize processes, and reduce costs, the Berlin Senate decided to establish a state-owned company to operate the pools under one roof.

In 1996, Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB) began operations as Europe’s largest municipal swimming pool operator.

Today, the BBB operates 67 swimming facilities at 62 locations and employs approximately 800 people.

More than 20 indoor pools and public swimming pools will be open through early September

Seven outdoor pools extend the season

When school starts again, the indoor swimming season in Berlin also begins.

By early September, 25 indoor pools will gradually open to the public, including the Charlottenburg City Pool, the indoor pool at the Spandau Süd Combination Pool (both on August 24), and the Anton-Saefkow-Platz Swimming Hall (on August 26), as well as the indoor pools at Fischerinsel, Baumschulenweg, and Kaulsdorf (all on August 31).

The newly renovated Stadtbad Schöneberg, where the technical systems were updated and the pools were retiled as part of a partial renovation beginning in early 2024, will reopen to the public on August 26.

With the end of summer break, the summer season at the outdoor pools is also gradually coming to a close.

Since staff are needed at the indoor pools—where school swimming lessons begin with the start of the school year—the 14 outdoor pools and the Wannsee Beach Pool will close one by one.

On August 30, seven outdoor pools will be open for what is expected to be their last day for now—including the Wilmersdorf, Mariendorf, and Wuhlheide outdoor pools.

The Olympiastadion outdoor pool will close on August 31.

As things stand, seven summer pools will remain open longer:

• Humboldthain Summer Pool (through September 11, 2026)
• Am Insulaner Summer Pool (through September 11, 2026)
• Pankow Summer Pool (through September 11, 2026)
• Gropiusstadt Combined Pool Summer Pool (through September 13, 2026)
• Wannsee Beach (through September 13, 2026)
• Neukölln Summer Pool (through September 13, 2026)
• Kreuzberg Summer Pool (through September 30, 2026)

The BBB will take stock of the summer season in mid-September, once most of the summer pools have closed.
