Music by titular organists at the Église de la Madeleine in Paris

In 1903, at the age of 16, Nadia Boulanger became assistant organist at the “Eglise de la Madeleine” in Paris, the neoclassical sacred building in the 8th arrondissement near the “Place de la Concorde”. The titular organist at the time was her composition teacher Gabriel Fauré.

The 28-year-old French organist Lucile Dollat - Radio France's resident organist in Paris since 2022 - is devoting herself to this early place of Nadia Boulanger's work for the Konzerthaus homage, combining music by titular organists at “La Madeleine” with her own improvisations. In addition to works by Gabriel Fauré, Camille Saint-Saёns and the current titular organist François-Henri Houbart, compositions by Jeanne Demessieux (1921 - 1968) will also be performed.

After the Second World War, the legendary “grande dame” of the organ quickly embarked on an impressive international solo career with over 700 concerts in Europe and three tours of the USA. In 1962, she also became titular organist at “La Madeleine” and left behind an extensive compositional oeuvre.
