Exploring marine futures together

The oceans connect everyone – histories, cultures, and futures. But their future is at stake: climate crisis, species extinction, pollution, geopolitical tensions – all of this threatens the oceans, their creatures, and ultimately ourselves.

The new special exhibition "Ocean Futures" asks how people can work together to ensure fairer and more regenerative ocean futures – locally and globally.

With this exhibition, Futurium launches a new format for international exchange:

Together with The Mind Museum in the Philippines, Futurium is opening a dialogue between the global South and North. The focus is on a country that is among the most biodiverse in the world – and at the same time, one of the most affected by climate change. The exhibition concept and exhibits are being developed in close collaboration with the partner museum, which is simultaneously presenting its own exhibition on the topic.

What can you expect at the Open Lab evening?

Through interactive exercises and a joint visit to the special exhibition, participants will explore the questions of tomorrow:

  • What stories do people who live with the ocean tell – in the Philippines and in Schleswig-Holstein?
  • What can we learn from each other to better protect the oceans?
  • What might new, more just ways of living by and with the ocean look like?

Be inspired by the expansive installation by the Filipino artist Leeroy New – a speculative future world that is partly reminiscent of a vast mangrove forest, partly of an artificial island. A place for imagination, listening, and negotiation.

All those interested in sharing their perspective on the ocean, discussing it, and shaping the future together are invited – across generations, creatively, and openly.
