Jewish history and present in the Spandauer Vorstadt and Scheunenviertel districts

Until the end of 2025, free city tours through the Spandau suburbs and the Scheunenviertel district will be offered in German and English every second Sunday of the month. Starting at the New Synagogue, participants will follow the traces of Berlin's oldest and most important Jewish institutions from 1672 to the present day.

The tour visits the remains of Berlin's oldest Jewish cemetery, the grounds of the world-famous College of Jewish Studies, and many other sites.

Participants will learn about the founding of the Jewish community, its efforts for complete equality, its heyday at the turn of the century, its near-total destruction during the Nazi era, and its arduous reconstruction efforts. Along the way, we will meet personalities such as Regina Jonas, the first female rabbi in world history, and the writer Franz Kafka, who spent the last year of his life in Berlin.
