„STAU - jetzt geht’s los!“ - Growing up/ DIY in East Germany?

Outtakes Cinema x Frachtkante x Mangel Records invites you to the first film screening in Tegel featuring: “Stau – Jetzt geht’s los” by Thomas Heise, which follows five far-right youths in Halle-Neustadt in the early 1990s and captures the uncertainty, disorientation, and social fractures of the post-reunification era.

Without commentary or judgment, the film lets its protagonists speak for themselves, becoming a powerful historical document of lost prospects, family conflicts, and the rise of right-wing violence in eastern Germany.

Before the screening, they meet Mangel Records at the Frachtkante, on the grounds of the former Tegel Airport, a space straddling cultural hub and new beginning. They ask the DIY punk label what kind of spaces music, art, and culture can create: against isolation, against right-wing co-optation, and against the feeling of having no place. What does it mean today to stand up against something? And what are art, music, and collective structures trying to overcome?

The focus is on punk as a form of protest born of the desire for independence and as a way to counter social conditions with something of one’s own.

And what exactly can “Jetzt geht’s los” mean today?

Come by and bring your friends. There will be snacks and drinks at Frachtkante at Tegel Airport, supported by @boller.laden and @frachtkante

TALK:

@mangelrecords

Mangel is a DIY label run by four people who live in Berlin but grew up in small towns in East Germany during the post-reunification era. They release music on cassettes and vinyl that just feels right—there’s no specific genre they stick to, though a lot of it could probably be called post-punk. There’s also no defined local focus; alongside bands and projects from Berlin, they’ve released music from places like Canada and Indonesia.
