The gallery ART CRU Berlin presents works by the artist Olga Mezenceva (*1984, Moscow), nominated for the euward, which explore the borders between abstraction and pictoriality and challenge the viewer's perspective. The closing event of the exhibition will take place as part of Mental Health Week on October 17, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Extended opening hours are offered during Berlin Art Week (from 15 to 17 September 2023, from 2 to 6 p.m.).
At first glance, her works may seem like abstract compositions of shapes, which the artist fashions primarily out of sketchy rectangles, trapezoids, and parallelograms, complemented by occasional circles and curved lines. But a closer look reveals possible connections. The individual forms form bodies that appear flat and expansive at the same time. Before our eyes, rectangles transform into elongated bodies with limbs, bright color fields turn out to be items of clothing, potential outdoor spaces become structures reminiscent of spines.
