‘With this year's festive concert, we, the Mahlsdorf Women's Choir, would like to get everyone in the mood for the 4th Sunday of Advent and the upcoming festivities,’ says association chairwoman Thekla Liebnitz.

‘This year, we have chosen the Christmas prayer, which contemplates the mystery of the birth of Jesus and has been set to music by numerous composers over the centuries. But of course, traditional and classic Christmas carols will also be part of our programme again,’ adds Liebnitz. ‘It is a particular pleasure for us to perform for the first time in the stylish and cosy atmosphere of the “Grüne Bühne”.’


Over the past two years, the ‘Grüne Bühne’ has increasingly developed into a cultural gem in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. It has become a great asset to the Hellersdorf neighbourhood.


The Berlin-Mahlsdorf Women's Choir was founded in 1974. Since 1991, the choir has been under the direction of Johanna Blumenthal, a qualified and highly acclaimed conductor. As artistic director, she has shaped the choir in her own unique way. In 1994, the women's choir was established as an association. After what was probably the most difficult period for the ensemble – the coronavirus pandemic – the women's choir resumed its tradition of seasonal concerts in the region. Performances in nursing homes in the Marzahn Hellersdorf district are always close to its heart. Around 60 association and supporting members from three generations share the joy of singing together.
