SEDAA – meaning "voice" in Persian – combines the traditional sounds of Mongolian and Persian cultures into a fascinating and deeply moving musical experience.
Using traditional instruments, ancient vocal techniques, and modern arrangements, the musicians of Ensemble Sedaa create a cosmos of sound that is both archaic and contemporary.
The group combines two Mongolian musicians with the Iranian multi-instrumentalist Omid Bahadori. Their music is based on natural sounds created with traditional instruments and ancient vocal techniques from nomadic cultures. This includes overtone and subtone singing, in which a singer produces several notes simultaneously.
Vibrant undertone singing, the melancholic sounds of the horsehead fiddle (morin khuur), and the pulsating rhythms of the drum and dulcimer merge into a mystical tapestry of sound.
