Forgotten Jewish compositions for piano and soprano
Many Jewish composers enriched European musical life before the Holocaust. During the Nazi era, their works were banned from concert halls, and the memory of their contributions was erased. The consequences are still felt today: their names are largely unknown, and their pieces are rarely performed.
The Gernsheim Duo, with soprano Anna Gann and pianist Naoko Christ-Kato, is bringing forgotten music back to the concert stage. In 2019, they released the world's first recording of songs by their namesake, Friedrich Gernsheim (1839–1916), who worked in Berlin for many years and is buried in the Weißensee Jewish Cemetery.
Performers:
- Anna Gann, soprano
- Naoko Christ-Kato, piano
