Ophelia Sings: Songs by Strauss, Rihm, and others

For one of his last song cycles, Wolfgang Rihm set the words of Shakespeare’s Ophelia. The tragic story of Hamlet’s spurned lover has long fascinated composers—including Richard Strauss, who was inspired by the same verses, in German translation, almost 100 years earlier.

Mojca Erdmann, who enjoyed a close collaboration with Rihm until his death in 2024, is joined by Malcolm Martineau to perform both Ophelia cycles, along with a selection of songs on related themes.
