An art chat with Tamara Schwieger
To launch the ‘Kunstplausch’ series in 2026, the Oskar voluntary agency gallery invites you to an art-historical exploration of the mirror motif.
Beyond its everyday function as a tool for self-perception, mirrors are examined in the visual arts as complex media that expand pictorial spaces and raise fundamental questions about reality and illusion.
This multi-layered symbolism will be explored in depth during the evening, which will examine the spectrum of meaning ranging from mere reflection to a metaphorical gateway to other dimensions.
Lichtenberg-based artist Tamara Schwieger, who has devoted herself to art history for 15 years following a career in science, will analyse the different functions of the mirror in art using selected masterpieces, including Édouard Manet's Bar at the Folies-Bergère.
After the lecture, there will be an opportunity for a discussion about the relationship between viewer and image, encouraging socio-cultural participation.
