by Ireneusz Iredyński
The play premiered in Warsaw in 1975 and has been available in a German translation by Christa Vogel since 1980.
This production will be the German premiere and is intended to rediscover the playwright, who died in 1985 at the age of just 46. In his short life, he was one of the most powerful and versatile authors of his generation, yet remains completely unknown in Germany.
The play takes us back to the time of Stalinism in Poland. A young man betrays the values of his fiancée. Maria denounces her lover, and he is subsequently banished from the university to a coal mine, where he dies in an accident.
The guilt casts a shadow over Maria's entire life. All attempts to atone for the mistakes resulting from youthful naivety are doomed to failure. She wrote down her story and sent it to an actress, asking her to give voice to it.
The performances are shown as part of the Sisters project.
