The "Gin Church" – an unusual name for a Berlin church! The reason for this is the thousands of empty gin bottles donated by the Gilka spirits company after World War II to replace the windows of the Twelve Apostles Church, which had been destroyed in 1943.
The special light from the bottles embedded in the gallery windows of the side aisles can still be experienced today.
Other remarkable windows can be found at this location. Upon entering the church, one is immediately captivated by the colorful, expressive leaded glass windows in the choir and the lower aisles.
The artist Alfred Kothe created them in collaboration with the glass artist Detlev Graw between 1960 and 1992. The iconography of these windows as well as details from the life of Alfred Kothe, who erected a memorial to his favorite cat here, are the subject of the tour.
The history, the remarkable organ, and the bells of this church in northern Schöneberg are also discussed.
