Versatile hip-hop blending soul, pop, and rap

Lexa Gates blends laid-back lo-fi beats, atmospheric synths, soulful R&B vocals, bedroom pop vibes, and polished rap flows into an emotional, multifaceted hip-hop sound.

Songs like "Rotten To The Core," "Stupid," and "I Just Can't Be Alone (with Billy Lemos)" are among her most-streamed tracks on Spotify. In the last six years, the 24-year-old musician has released six albums and one EP. Her latest work, "I Am," was released in January 2026 and already features the potential hit "Latency."

In June, Lexa Gates will be coming to Berlin as part of her I Am 2026 tour to present her new album live at Gretchen.

From Puerto Rico to New York: The Beginnings

Ivanna Alexandra Martinez, aka Lexa Gates, is from Puerto Rico. Inspired early on by her musician mother, she began playing piano and taking singing lessons. After moving to Queens, New York, she dedicated herself to songwriting at the age of 17. Her debut album, "Order of Events," and the EP "Scum of the Earth" were released in 2020.

As early as 2021, she demonstrated her immense creativity with the albums "Delirium" and "Hungry," before achieving her biggest success to date in 2022 with "Rotten To The Core" from "Universe Wrapped In Flesh." Further hits such as "Selfish," "Angel" (2023), "Lately, Nothing" featuring Alé Araya (2024), and "I Just Can't Be Alone" (2024) solidified her reputation as a rising hip-hop artist.

Creative Promotion and Live Performance

Even outside of music, Lexa Gates relies on eye-catching stunts: For the album "Elite Vessel," she locked herself in a glass box in Union Square in Manhattan for 10 hours. For "I Am," she repeated the stunt at the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery—this time in an oversized hamster wheel, streamed live on Twitch. The aim of these stunts: to offer genuine insights into the life and emotions of a young musician.
