The exhibition “Liminal Space” by Kristiina Lähde and Sirpa Suominen explores life’s transitional phases, moments of change, and the acceptance of the inevitable.

Based on the artists’ personal experiences, their works approach these themes through the perspective of the lived body, imperfection, and a gentle, reflective acceptance.

The exhibition features both individual pieces and collaborative installations—some with humorous elements, as laughter can help process difficult experiences.

Kristiina Lähde examines impressions, emotional states, and moments of transformation, often through reduction and abstraction. In addition to painting, she uses textiles such as lace, knitted or crocheted elements, and collage. Her works reflect femininity and physicality in the face of aging and illuminate both physical and emotional transformations, as well as how we learn to live with them.

Sirpa Suominen's paintings focus on the human form and themes such as intergenerational connection, human interaction, and the relationship to oneself and others. Her works in "Liminal Space" stem from her own experiences during a challenging life transition. Painted on aluminum, they explore the emotions of such times: the feeling of self-loss and the slow, profound process of redefining one's identity.
