Winter Film Programme at the Bernau Visitor Centre

To mark the 100th anniversary of Konrad Wolf's birth, the Bernau Visitor Centre is dedicating a six-part film series to one of the most influential directors of the GDR.

From 2 November to 7 December 2025, key works by Wolf will be shown every Sunday at 3:30 pm, including I Was Nineteen, The Divided Sky and Solo Sunny. The programme will also feature the children's film Die Weihnachtsgans Auguste (Auguste the Christmas Goose), based on a story by Wolf's father, the writer Friedrich Wolf. This selection invites viewers to reconsider Konrad Wolf's cinematic work within its historical and artistic context.

Wolf (1925–1982), who was made an honorary citizen of Bernau, was not only a prominent DEFA director but also president of the GDR's Academy of Arts. His films explore themes of war, social change and personal identity, which remain highly relevant even decades later. Wolf's connection to Bernau, where he briefly served as Soviet city commander in 1945, remained strong for many years.

This film programme invites viewers to engage critically with his work, and contributes to the cultural remembrance of an artist who always viewed film as a means of social expression.

Tickets cost €5 and €4 for city pass holders. They are available at the visitor centre, the tourist information office and online via the website.
