Klezmer dances and Yiddish songs, sounds from the Balkans and Rembetiko: WEDDING KLEZMER is passionately dedicated to this music. The languages of the songs are as numerous and diverse as the instruments themselves. The songs are sung not only in Yiddish and Greek.

The Berlin-based band has been playing together for nearly a quarter of a century. Most of the musicians met in Berlin’s Wedding district at a workshop led by composer and trumpeter Paul Brody. Since then, they have been performing as a quartet and quintet, arranging traditional instrumental pieces and songs. Uwe Sauerwein, who has been active in Berlin’s Yiddish scene for decades—both as a soloist and as a singer with the ensemble Kasbek—joined the band four years ago.
