Since their formation in 1986 in New York's East Village, The Klezmatics have revolutionized Yiddish music with their distinctive style. Their sound combines traditional Eastern European klezmer roots with musical influences from jazz, Latin, Balkan, Middle Eastern, African, and American music – energetic, danceable, and always surprising.
With 13 internationally acclaimed albums, tours on five continents, and performances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and festivals such as WOMAD, Colours of Ostrava, and Yiddish Summer Weimar, The Klezmatics are one of the world's best-known klezmer ensembles. Their musical partners include Itzhak Perlman, Chava Alberstein, Tony Kushner, and Arlo Guthrie.
In 2006, the band became the first and so far only klezmer group to win a Grammy Award – for the album “Wonder Wheel: Lyrics by Woody Guthrie.” Their music can also be heard in numerous film, theater, and TV productions.
The Klezmatics are preparing a major anniversary tour to mark their 40th anniversary in 2026. They plan to re-release their most important albums, supplemented by previously unreleased material.
In addition, fans worldwide can look forward to exclusive collectibles and an exhibition featuring artifacts from four decades of Klezmatics history.
