Black Smoker, Julian Charrière's sixth solo exhibition, is presented by the DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM Gallery. In his immersive projects, Charrière explores ecological frontiers – from glaciers to deep-sea ecosystems – always with an eye on human intervention and its impact on the planet.
Black Smoker transports visitors to the mysterious depths of the ocean, where volcanic forces and hydrothermal vents create a dark, overwhelming world. Sound installations simulate the seismic energy of these underwater landscapes, creating a sensory and intense experience.
In the second exhibition space, Charrière presents Spiral Economy, a sculptural vending machine that reflects on the limits of the exploitation of nature and the significance of geological time.
Also on display for the first time are new photographs from his series Midnight Zone, which document the threatened marine ecosystem of the Clarion-Clipperton fracture zone.
The exhibition is an intense appeal to reconsider the fragile balance of our environment and to understand our relationship with the sea as a vulnerable habitat.
