Lecture with hans-Jürgen Schatz
Günter de Bruyn describes the circumstances that led to Johann Paul Friedrich Richter's estate ending up in Berlin rather than remaining in Bavaria. And if Jean Paul had not written to his idol, Karl Philipp Moritz, in Berlin at just the right moment, it might never have been printed, or only much later.
His enthusiasm for ‘Schulmeisterlein Wutz’ was the starting signal for the career of the hitherto unknown and unpublished young writer from Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge mountains. The brief correspondence between Jean Paul and Karl Philipp Moritz is followed by the touching and comical middle section of ‘Schulmeisterlein Wutz’, which could be entitled ‘In love, engaged, married’.
Hans-Jürgen Schatz made his debut in the leading role in the feature film Flamme empor (1979). Since then, he has appeared in numerous theatre and musical productions as well as cinema and television films, including ‘Heimat’, ‘Der Fahnder’ and ‘Salto Postale’. He earned an excellent reputation as a reciter with texts by Erich Kästner, Jean Paul and Thomas Mann.
