200 years Museum Island

To mark the beginning of the anniversary year “200 Years of Museum Island Berlin,” the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is hosting a three-day island festival.

The Island Festival at a Glance

From 30 May to 1 June 2025, all six museums on Museum Island will be the focus of an extensive programme featuring exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and contributions from renowned Berlin cultural institutions.

The aim is to make the cultural heritage of Museum Island accessible to a broad public—both inside the museums and in the outdoor spaces.

Programme

More than 60 guided tours, including themed and spontaneous “surprise tours”, as well as several special exhibitions, will be offered across the museums. At the same time, a continuous open-air stage programme will take place in the Kolonnadenhof.

Highlights include performances and appearances by the Deutsches Theater, Berliner Ensemble, Volksbühne, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and Komische Oper.

A new ZDF/arte documentary on the history of Museum Island will also premiere with public screenings in the James Simon Gallery on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival will conclude with a ceremonial event for UNESCO World Heritage Day on 1 June at 11:00 a.m.
