Rio Reiser was the "enfant terrible" of the German music scene from the mid-1960s until his death in 1996. At the beginning with the band "Ton Steine Scherben" in Berlin, he resisted the commercialisation of his music and founded his own publishing company with his band members. Political agitation, drugs, alcohol and a life on the edge of subsistence were part of his everyday life.

Rio's autobiography and diary entries as well as comments and interwiews from companions were incorporated into the programme, which is played and sung in reduced and incendiary arrangements.
