Art, robbery and restitution

How can provenance research and restitution issues be integrated into educational work? What significance do restitution and return have for dealing with history today?

This event offers an introduction to provenance research by staff members of the Central Archive of the National Museums in Berlin – Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Participants will develop a shared understanding of key terms, questions, and their relevance to education and outreach.

The international campaign “#StolenMemory” by the Arolsen Archives, which returns stolen belongings of concentration camp prisoners to their families, will be presented as a best-practice example.

Using concrete examples, participants will be shown and then discussed how the topics of looting and restitution can be addressed and explored pedagogically within the context of the Nazi era.

Admission and participation are free of charge. Registration is recommended.

Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the federal program “Democracy Lives!”
