Artist Talk with Beeple
Using a combination of 3D modeling, AI, animation, and satire, Beeple—born Mike Winkelmann—reflects on contemporary culture, technology, politics, and consumer behavior. The artist gained international recognition by introducing digital art into the traditional art world and art market, particularly through the record-breaking sale of his work “NFT Everydays: The First 5000 Days” at Christie’s in 2021 for $69 million. In this conversation with curator Lisa Botti, Beeple combines artistic practice with art-historical reflection, exploring NFTs, AI, and social media as well as questions of ownership, attention, value, and creativity in a rapidly changing visual culture.
Beeple (born Mike Winkelmann, 1981 in Wisconsin) is an American artist known for his large-scale installations and his long-running project “Everydays.” As part of this project, he has been publishing a new digital artwork every day since 2007. His artistic practice explores the intersection of art, media, and new technologies and challenges traditional boundaries of authorship and exhibition. With “Regular Animals,” Beeple continues his longstanding engagement with technology, culture, and satire—this time in a physical-digital hybrid installation.
Lisa Botti has been a curator at the Neue Nationalgalerie since 2024, having previously served as assistant curator to Director Klaus Biesenbach. Prior to her work at the Neue Nationalgalerie, Botti worked internationally, including at the Sydney Biennale (2019–2021) and at Chan + Hori Contemporary in Singapore (2017–2019). At the Neue Nationalgalerie, she has co-curated major exhibitions such as “Isa Genzken. 75/75” (2023), “Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty” (2024), and an exhibition by Maurizio Cattealan in the fall of 2026. She has also contributed to the museum’s performance program, including the annual PERFORM! festival as part of Berlin Art Week.
