Christmas tour with mulled wine and punch
On Christmas Eve, the Grotto Hall presented a very special picture. The candlelight from the chandeliers and sconces made the walls adorned with crystals and precious stones shine in a sparkling light. This garden hall, designed by Frederick the Great in the 18th century, was the place where Kaiser Wilhelm II celebrated Christmas with his family from 1889 to 1917. Princess Victoria Luise, daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, described the festivities as the high point of family life.
This guided tour focuses on the use of the house by the imperial family. You will learn more about the functions of the rooms during the Advent season, the delicious dishes that were served at Christmas dinner and the gifts the imperial couple and their seven children received.
Wilhelm II was the first monarch to use the New Palace as his preferred residence for several months of the year. To end the Christmas tour in an atmospheric way, mulled wine or punch is served at the end of the tour.
