Christmas tour
The Grottensaal offered a unique picture on Christmas Eve. The candlelight from the chandeliers and wall branches made the walls decorated with crystals and precious stones sparkle. In the garden hall designed by Frederick the Great in the 18th century, Kaiser Wilhelm II celebrated Christmas with his family from 1889 to 1917. Princess Victoria Luise, the daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, described the celebrations as the highlight of family life.
The focus of this tour is the imperial use of the house. You will learn what functions the rooms had during Advent, what delicacies were part of the Christmas dinner and what gifts the imperial couple and their seven children received. Wilhelm II was the first monarch to use the New Palace as his preferred residence for several months a year.
