From 1 March to 31 March 2025 for Endo-March, the Obenrum Untenrum gallery in Berlin is presenting the impressive exhibition ‘Hidden Heroes’ by documentary photographer ‘Nietze’.
With touching photographs, the exhibition is dedicated to the invisible strength and the stories of people who are often not sufficiently recognised in society and who suffer from endometriosis or adenomyosis.
It creates a space for encounters, dialogue and empowerment and brings a socially neglected topic into focus.
Insight into the project
‘Hidden Heroes’ sheds light on the realities of life for those affected by chronic diseases such as endometriosis and adenomyosis, as well as the challenges that often remain hidden. The portraits not only give these people a face, but also tell their stories - honestly, memorably and movingly. The exhibition makes the often unheard voices visible and encourages an open dialogue.
Vernissage and supporting programme
The exhibition will open on Saturday, 1 March 2025, with a vernissage at 18:00 at Galerie Obenrum Untenrum, Goethestraße 70, 10625 Berlin. The artist, the Endometriose Vereinigung Deutschland e.V., the gynaecologist and sexual medicine specialist Helen Sange, the Info-Ufo from Endo.versum and Haana Peony from Endo.versum will be on site for the opening.
There will be a special highlight on 8 March 2025, Feminist Fight Day: a photo campaign will take place in the gallery from 12:00 to 18:00. People who suffer from endometriosis or adenomyosis can have their portrait taken by ‘Nietze’. Supporters in solidarity are also invited to set an example.
Cultural significance and vision
With ‘Hidden Heroes’, the artist wants to raise awareness of socially neglected issues, strengthen FLINTA* and contribute to a more open dialogue. The exhibition is a tribute to the quiet resilience and courage of those affected, who deal with challenges on a daily basis that often go unrecognised by the general public.
GOFUNDME
The photographer has set up a GOFUNDME campaign to receive monetary support for the realisation of the exhibition and possibly to take the project to another multimedia level in the future: https://www.gofundme.com/f/hidden-heroes-unsichtbare-krankheiten-echte-geschichten
