After their father once again brings home only a little bread from the market, which is not enough to feed everyone, the parents decide to take Hansel and Gretel with them into the forest.

A crow that has settled on the windowsill at night claims that a rich old lady lives there and that Hansel and Gretel will be able to get enough to eat from her. And because they see no other way out, the parents believe what the crow tells them. And so Hansel and Gretel end up in the deepest part of the forest...
