A tribute to Kurt Weill, Broadway, and Berlin in the Roaring Twenties
When ORSOvocals & Friends enter the Philharmonie's Chamber Music Hall, elegance and exuberance meet Kurt Weill. With songs like "Mack the Knife," "Speak Low," and "My Ship," the ensemble pays tribute to the composer whose melodies achieved worldwide fame—often more famous than their creator himself.
Under the direction of Wolfgang Roese, a native of Kippenheim and founder of ORSO (Orchestra & Choral Society e. V.), a unique portrait of Weill emerges: a journey between the gutter and glamour, Berlin and Broadway, German edginess and American glamour.
The ORSOvocals — comprised of singers from Berlin, Stuttgart, and Freiburg—slip into the roles of Weill's characters, bringing the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties and Thirties to life in an energetic revue. An evening brimming with musical passion, dance, and theater—from The Threepenny Opera to Street Scene.
