We would be delighted to take you on a guided tour of the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof cemetery, where we will solve these mysteries with you.

At the same time, we will explore the big and small questions raised by the lives and works of the people buried here.

Your cemetery guide is Dr Joachim Schmidt, a Berliner by choice, theologian and long-time enthusiast of this place and what it can tell us.

Why is there an apple tree in a cemetery?
Why did Brecht and Hegel both wish to be buried in this particular cemetery?
And how did a cemetery for the poor become the ‘Père-Lachaise of Berlin’?
