The Greek Film Festival in Berlin is the Greek film festival that was founded in 2015 as Hellas Filmbox Berlin. The festival offers German and international audiences a unique opportunity to see the best of new Greek cinema (or cinema related to Greece) on the big screen. We show 35 to 40 feature films, documentaries and short films, most of which are German or international premieres.

Spotlight Angeliki Papoulia
The five-day event takes place every year in March at the historic Babylon cinema in the heart of Berlin.
Thanks to the participation of filmmakers, producers, high-profile jury members, film professionals and artists, as well as the organisation of parallel events, discussions, exhibitions and networking events, the festival has become one of the city's leading film events. Special thanks go to our amazing and growing festival audience. The German-Greek Cultural Association e.V. organises the festival.The German-Greek Cultural Association e.V. was founded in April 2015 by German and Greek initiators in Berlin with the aim of supporting and strengthening German-Greek relations through cultural projects such as Hellas Filmbox Berlin (2016-2019), The Greek Film Festival in Berlin (2020-present), The Greek Film Festival Goes Frankfurt, The Greek Film Festival goes Cologne (currently).
The initiators of the German-Greek Cultural Association e.V. were the artists Asteris Kutulas and Ina Kutulas.
Sofia Stavrianidou (festival director) is currently a member of the association's board.
Spotlight: Angeliki Papoulia
The Greek Film Festival in Berlin is particularly pleased to present a spotlight on Angeliki Papoulia, the outstanding actress of contemporary Greek cinema, as part of its 11th edition. With an impressive film career and roles in important films that have been shown at the world's most renowned film festivals – from ‘Dogtooth’ and ‘The Lobster’ by Yorgos Lanthimos to ‘To a Land Unknown’ by Mahdi Fleifel – Angeliki Papoulia is now one of the most renowned and internationally known personalities in Greek cinema.Angeliki Papoulia was born in Athens. She is an actress and theatre director. As a film actress, she is internationally famous for her leading roles in, among others, Yorgos Lanthimos' Dogtooth, which was nominated for an Oscar, Alps and Yorgos Lanthimos' first English-language feature film, The Lobster, which was also nominated for an Oscar. Other feature film roles in her film career include: ‘Human Flowers of Flesh’ by Helena Wittmann, ‘To a Land Unknown’ by Mahdi Fleifel, ‘The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea’ by Syllas Tzoumerkas, ‘Arcadia’ by Yorgos Zois and many more.
In 2004, she co-founded the Blitz Theatre Group. She wrote, co-directed and acted in all of the group's productions, which were presented at many European theatres and festivals. Recently, Angeliki Papoulia co-directed theatre productions at the Lucerne Theatre and the Schauspielhaus Zurich in Switzerland.
