THE GOLEM: HOW HE CAME INTO THE WORLD, live with an orchestra

In 1920, the Jewish composer Hans Landsberger wrote the first groundbreaking film score in cinematic history for the expressionist silent film classic *Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam*.

Yet for almost 100 years, it had not been heard: all the works of the composer – himself a victim of the Holocaust – were thought to have been lost, until Richard Siedhoff tracked down and reconstructed this music in 2018.

Using the rediscovered music, the Munich Film Museum was finally able to carry out an exemplary digital reconstruction of the film – using film footage scattered across the globe. Both the film restoration and the original music will enjoy their glittering Berlin premiere at this film concert.

In conversation with Knut Elstermann, Stefan Drößler – restorer, project manager and director of the Munich Film Museum – and Richard Siedhoff, who discovered and reconstructed the music, will discuss the fascinating restoration work.
