FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT Festival 2025 – Young Stars Edition freedom of movement festival

Since 2017, the festival has been bringing together artists and productions that deal with the themes of freedom of movement, flight and arrival.

In a time of social division, increasing polarisation and global crises, CABUWAZI is sending a strong message with this festival: freedom of movement is not only a human right, but a reality of life that affects many young people – including those at CABUWAZI. FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT becomes a place for encounter and exchange on topics such as mobility, power, justice and belonging.

The Young Stars Edition puts young CABUWAZI artists at the centre of the festival. They are given a stage to share their perspectives, experiences and visions on the theme of freedom of movement through circus, dance, performance and music.

Since 2024, FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT has been part of ‘Zeit für Zirkus’ (Time for Circus), a nationwide festival within the framework of the international La Nuit du Cirque.

4 p.m.

International Arrivals

The CABUWAZI Tempelhof youth ensemble consists of young artists between the ages of 14 and 21. Some have been living in Berlin for a long time, others are new to the city. 

This year's motto for Zeit für Zirkus is ‘Zeit zum Reden’ (Time to Talk) – and it fits perfectly with the ensemble's work. Dialogue, encounter and exchange characterise their collaboration.

Although many very different life stories come together here, the focus is on community – and a love of circus arts. 

In this year's show, the ensemble will send a message of solidarity with different disciplines on the ground and in the air.

7 p.m.

Open Stage

Young artists aged 18 to 27 from the CABUWAZI community were invited to apply with a solo, duo or group circus performance on the theme of freedom of movement.

We are very proud to present a diverse, explosive and artistically innovative evening event by the CABUWAZI Young Stars to the audience.

A jury of people with stage experience and professional qualifications will award prizes to the three most exciting performances. This year, your opinion counts too, because there is an audience award

9.30 p.m. – 11 p.m.

After-show party

Following the two circus shows, there will be a party with live music from ‘The Bridesgown’ and everyone is welcome to join in singing, dancing and celebrating the values of the FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT festival.

The after-show party is free of charge and no registration is required.
