Freedom and tolerance are central values of our democracy that make our society strong and vibrant. They enable us to respect different opinions, cultures, and ways of life and to live together in an open society. However, these values cannot be taken for granted — they require our protection and our attention. In times of change and social challenges, it is important to stand up for the freedom of every individual and to show tolerance toward others. Only in this way can we maintain a democratic society in which all people are equal and free to express their opinions.
