Story House Productions in collaboration with ZDF and Arte

As part of the special exhibition "The Pazzi Conspiracy. Power, Violence and Art in Renaissance Florence", you are invited to see the fall of the Medici on screen at the Bode Museum.

The episode ‘Murder in the Cathedral – The Medici’ (directed by Cuini Amelio Ortiz) is part of the series ‘Cold Case History’, which investigates major murder cases in history and retells them as historical crime stories, reopening them with the help of modern forensic technology.

The Medici are the most powerful family in Renaissance Florence. They dominate politics and the economy. The long-established Pazzi family wants to break the Medici's influence and plans an assassination attempt on the two Medici brothers, Giuliano and Lorenzo. During Easter Mass in 1478, Francesco de' Pazzi and a group of men attack the unsuspecting brothers. Giuliano dies instantly from Francesco's furious stabbing.

The brutality of the act can still be seen today in the victim's remains. But Lorenzo manages to escape. The coup in Florence fails. The perpetrators are quickly apprehended and the search for those behind the conspiracy begins. Florence Kasumba, together with historians such as Marcello Simonetta, compiles evidence from medicine, psychology and art history.

The film is shown in German. Participation is included in the admission price.

After the movie you have the possibility to attend a curator tour.
