David and Bathsheba is a 1951 epic film based on the 2nd Book of Samuel from the Old Testament. The novel David by Alfred Duff Cooper, 1st Viscount Norwich also served as inspiration.

David has reached the height of his power when, after the death of King Saul, he becomes ruler of Israel. He recalls a time when he was a shepherd and, at God's command, was ordained by the prophet Samuel to be the future king of Israel. With God's help, he was even able to kill the giant Goliath with a slingshot.

David, now king, falls in love with Bathsheba, a noblewoman who is married to the soldier Uriah. When Bathsheba becomes pregnant by David, David has Uriah killed on the battlefield. The prophet Nathan then prophesies that great wars will break out in David's house in the future.
