An overture
For its 30th anniversary, the Flöz family brings their internationally acclaimed theater art with masks to the Berliner Ensemble with a world premiere. Three small universes emerge from nowhere, in which the Flöz characters address their everyday worries.
Three stories, held together by a narrator who is as speechless as he is incomprehensible:
The owner of a Späti (snack bar) in the city, who, true to the motto "I don't cost anything," sacrifices himself for the needs of his diverse clientele. But he doesn't run his business without risk. Bit by bit, his own story emerges.
His own mother's illness throws his son off track. The hospital becomes the focal point of an identity crisis. A young woman seeks meaning in life in harmony with nature. But her seemingly idyllic life in a remote forest cabin harbors dark secrets.
Three people are at turning points in their lives. Their supposed certainties crumble. Abysses open up. Who will save them? For decades, the Flöz family has been telling wordless stories that find their greatness in the small: in the tragicomic failures of lovingly drawn characters.
But there is another core element to their work – the audience. It is the imagination of the viewers that brings the masks to life. The often-asked question of how this life comes into being becomes a practical experimental setup.
