with a caricature workshop

Experience political satire up close! In an inspiring vernissage atmosphere, the exhibition offers fresh perspectives on satirical art.

You’ll analyse incisive caricatures, learn to develop your own motifs and enjoy a stylish evening with a studio-like atmosphere – accompanied by a glass of wine or Aperol.

About the exhibition

‘La Caricade Franco-Allemande’ takes a humorous, at times biting look at more than 60 years of Franco-German relations – from Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle to Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron. The starting point is the 1963 Élysée Treaty, which, after a long history of enmity, laid the foundation for Franco-German reconciliation.

Critical, satirical, at times sarcastic, yet always witty, cartoonists from both countries take aim at the major moments and minor frictions of this friendship. The exhibition was conceived by Helmut Schmidt Medien GmbH and has already been shown at numerous venues across Germany.

Lecture on Franco-German friendship

Before the exhibition opens its doors, we will take a look at the history and present state of Franco-German friendship with Dr Christiane Kohser-Spohn. In her lecture, she will explain how former sworn enemies became close partners – thereby providing the perfect historical prelude to the exhibition’s satirical perspective.

An evening of discovery

At the opening, you can expect more than just a guided tour: together we’ll explore the caricatures, discuss their visual language and political allusions, and take our first tentative steps into the art of exaggeration. In a relaxed studio atmosphere, over a glass of wine or Aperol, your visit to the exhibition will turn into a convivial and inspiring evening.
