A very special fleet is sailing into the Library at the Water Tower – instead of oars, it has pencils and paintbrushes; instead of a ship, it has stories; and it is propelled by powerful gusts of imagination. For these are illustrators of children’s books. A good book has a very special power – it takes us on an adventurous journey without us even moving from the spot.
Lucie Lučanská’s book The Five Senses teaches young readers to hone their sensory awareness and to enjoy an ordinary walk through the village with all their senses. Jakub Plachý’s book Look, an Elephant! is also about sensitivity. It’s the story of an elephant who’d love to play football, but is rather clumsy at it. Even so, playing with him is great fun! The illustrations in the book Mr Nobody and the White Darkness by Darja Čančíková Bogdanová, meanwhile, whisk you away to the streets at night, where all sorts of mysterious, even spooky, things happen. With great sensitivity and powerful imagery, the book Neither Boy Nor Girl by Marita Kelbl tells the story of finding one’s place in life and shows children and young people just how much courage and strength there is in discovering one’s true self.
The exhibition is complemented by playful textile objects by Alžběta Zemanová – and you’re expressly encouraged to touch the exhibits! So climb aboard our boat of imagination and let’s set sail!

Creative workshop with illustrator Darja Čančíková Bogdanová
Illustrator and painter Darja Čančíková Bogdanová introduces children to the world of colours, materials and imagination. In her work, she combines illustration, painting and graphic art to create imaginative, slightly dreamlike worlds. In the workshop, the children will try their hand at working with unusual materials – particularly wool, cotton threads, fabrics and wire – and create their own three-dimensional objects based on their imagination.
