Printing art in dialogue 2024

The exhibition "ETCHING - SCRATCHING - STICKING, Printing Art in Dialogue 2024" in the Kommunale Galerie Berlin is dedicated to the art of printing in all its facets. Works from the series “Printing Art in Dialogue” will be shown.

The project is based on an interactive, experimental collaboration: two or more artists create combination prints on an image medium in dialogue with various traditional printing techniques, which emerge as exciting new forms of printmaking. Unique artistic works as a result of the collaboration of several actors have so far been known primarily from music and performing arts. Getting involved in this in the visual arts also represents a significant challenge and marks a new discursive approach.

The concept of the project series “Printing Art in Dialogue” was developed by Viola Bendzko & Claudia Hartwig.

On March 15, 2018, artistic printing techniques, including letterpress printing, intaglio printing, planographic printing, carbon printing and their mixed forms, were added to the UNESCO Commission's list of intangible world cultural heritage. Since then, numerous events have been held on March 15th as Printing Art Day to show the general public how lively this cultural heritage is.
