Lecture | Talk

Elias and Yousef Anastas are outstanding representatives of their generation. Raised in a Palestinian family of architects, they studied and worked in France but returned to Bethlehem. There, in 2012, they founded “Local Industries”, a collective of designers and producers for furniture production, and in 2016, “SCALES”, a research platform that deals with linking otherwise separate scales.

With their office AAU Anastas, they have built public and cultural buildings, including the courthouse in Tulkarem (2015), the courthouse in Hebron (2021), a gallery space at the Benedictine monastery in Abu Ghosh (2019), and the conversion of Dar AlMajus into a community centre in Bethlehem (2023). In 2023, “The Wonder Cabinet” was built on the outskirts of Bethlehem, an experimental production site for architects, designers, chefs, craftsmen, musicians and artists in a new three-storey building, for which they received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2025.

At the event, they will present their work through photographs. They will be introduced by the jurors George Arbid, President of the Arab Centre for Architecture, Beirut, and Philipp Oswalt and Donata Valentien, members of the Architecture Section of the Akademie der Künste. Regine Keller, Deputy Director of the Architecture Section, will welcome the guests.

Architects Elias and Yousef Anastas (AAU Anastas), winners of the 2026 Berlin Art Prize in the field of architecture, present their extensive work.

Regine Keller welcomes the audience; George Arbid, Philipp Oswalt and Donata Valentien moderate the talk.
