"The East: A West German Invention" has met with great interest and is the subject of much discussion - in everyday conversations, in the media, at events.
Following the sold-out book premiere at the Kulturbrauerei, Literatur LIVE and Ullstein Verlag decided to hold a second joint event in Berlin. This time, Dirk Oschmann discusses with journalist and author Anja Reich.
The Leipzig Germanist shows how, even more than thirty years after the fall of the Wall, the West defines itself as the norm and the East as a deviation. Our media, politics, economy and science are dominated by West German perspectives. The author pointedly illuminates how this othering and the lack of social, economic and discursive equality deprives people from the East of opportunities for public speaking and harms our society - initiating a long overdue debate.
An event by Literatur LIVE in cooperation with Ullstein Verlag and Thalia Buchhandlung.
