Daily Life and Culture in the Scheunenviertel
A hundred years ago, the Scheunenviertel, with its rich history, was the talk of the town – a working-class neighbourhood with a strong migrant culture, particularly that of Eastern European Jews. Yiddish shop signs, written in Hebrew letters, were a familiar sight on the streets. But what was everyday life like for the people here? This walking tour recounts life in the neighbourhood from the perspective of its residents and highlights the shops, theatres and meeting places where Germans and Eastern European Jews came together.
