Action Painting
The Abguss-Sammlung Antiker Plastik is pleased to present Crossfire, a solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist Jac Carley.
In dialogue with the extensive collection of plaster casts of Greek and Roman sculptures, Jac Carley stages a contemporary encounter between the myths of classical antiquity and their protagonists.
Her action paintings on large-format paper testify to the power and emotion of gesture. They reflect the timeless tension between chaos and order.
Fire, anger, conflict—these are foundations of ancient ‘creation myths’ that live on in the sculptures. And those same descriptors articulate the underlying mood of our contemporary world—rage, struggle, war.
Known for her interdisciplinary practice bridging choreography, text, and visual installation, in CROSSFIRE, Jac Carley situates the human figure within a field of opposing forces, reflecting both the legacy of antiquity and the urgencies of today's social and political climate.
In CROSSFIRE, Jac Carley’s works dialogue with prominent ‘characters’ in the Abguss-Sammlung’s permanent collection. The works invite viewers to move between stillness and confrontation, to take a moment to experience how contemporary and ancient bodies share a history of conflict and resilience.
