For many creative professionals, digital platforms are both a stage and a gatekeeper. They influence which literature is noticed and which is not.

Fiona Sironic's novel "Am Samstag gehen die Mädchen in den Wald und jagen Sachen in die Luft" (On Saturday, the girls go into the woods and blow things up), nominated for the German Book Prize 2025, illustrates the extent to which the digital public sphere influences lives. The protagonist observes two teenagers erasing their past online, while she herself tries to hold onto a vanishing world.

The D64 association aims to explore the interplay between digital platforms and cultural production. To this end, they have invited Fiona Sironic and Clarissa Walter, a researcher at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin. Clarissa investigates how algorithms' perceptions influence behavior, even when they can only guess the underlying rules. Her research examines how algorithms affect the production of digital science communication content due to the power they wield over visibility.

How do views, likes, and dwell time influence the perception of text quality? How can people use digital platforms without losing their own artistic voice? These and other questions will be discussed with you in a dialogue between Clarissa's research and Fiona's novel on May 27th at 7:00 pm at the Lettrétage e.V. premises.

Everyone who writes and is interested in the growing influence of platforms on creative work is invited to this exchange between literary practice and the exploration of digitality.
